17th June 2021 | Hudson Contract
Industry leader Hudson Contract has consulted the Home Office on the EU Settlement Scheme and what the impending deadline will mean for European subcontractors and UK companies using their services.
EU, EEA or Swiss citizens and their families have until June 30 to apply for settled or pre-settled status in the UK. To succeed, they must usually have started living in the UK by December 31 2020.
Ian Anfield, managing director of Hudson Contract, said: “As the construction sector’s largest provider of self-employed labour, we were invited to speak with the Home Office about the government scheme and what our clients and operatives must do to comply with the new rules.
“If EU subcontractors have already been through our vetting process, companies are fine to carry on using them without risk. Hudson carries out more checks than legally required as part of our commitment to best practice.
“The main challenge will be for companies with a large turnover of EU subcontractors including those who are new to the UK and we invite them to get in touch for trusted advice on compliance. We will be asking them to prove their subbies were working here before the end of December and or have either settled or pre-settled status.”
