Serving an apprenticeship sets up young people for success. The Hudson Foundation pays £50 per week towards the wages of an apprentice during their first year in our flagship sponsorship scheme. To date, we have sponsored more than 260 young people to learn valuable trade skills and get a good start in life.
It’s based on four very simple steps:
- Students receive our letter of support
- Students find an employer willing to take them on
- We confirm our 12-month support to employers
- Employers invoice us for £50 per week sponsorship payment.
Our scheme began in 2011, inspired by this advert in our local newspaper:
Seeking apprenticeship
Young man (17) desperately seeking an Electrician Apprenticeship. Extremely enthusiastic, reliable, fit and hard-working individual, with full driving licence and own transport. Currently in second year of an appropriate college course and can be transferred to specific apprenticeship course. If you could possibly offer an apprenticeship to a very genuine person, please call.
To celebrate our 25th anniversary in 2021, we expanded our scheme nationwide and sponsored 25 apprentices at 25 clients across England and Wales.
Construction employers tell us they like our scheme because it is easy to use. For extra support, we created the Construction Apprenticeships website to help them navigate national apprenticeship programmes.
